We applaud the legislation offered by an Ohio lawmaker to ban artificial intelligence systems from having human rights such as the ability to marry and own property.

Realistically, these kind of policies have to be enacted at the federal level. But state Rep. Thad Claggett (R., Licking County) does a good thing in offering legislation for the state to adopt and to contribute to the national discussion about how to keep our created artificial intelligence monster from replacing the human race.

House Bill 469 would make it illegal for a person to marry an AI system, regardless of how beautiful that artificial woman or man is, and to prevent AI from owning property, holding corporate roles, or controlling financial accounts.
