PALMYRA, Mo. -- High school rivalry football games can be unpredictable. It can be even more unpredictable when both teams have a chance of winning. That was the case Friday night, with the Mayor’s Cup on the line between the Monroe City Panthers, and the Palmyra Panthers.
Both teams were 4-1 going into the Clarence Cannon Conference matchup. Monroe City was looking to move to 4-0 in conference play, and take firm control with a few games left in the season.
The Palmyra Panthers were looking to end a skid against Monroe City and claim the Mayor’s Cup again. They had lost four straight matchups going into this one.
Palmyra was not able to stop the streak from continuing. as Monroe City won the Mayor’s Cup for the fifth year in a row with a 26-20 road win.
