PAWTUCKET – Molly Clark didn’t have a game plan, just an opportunity, so with the ball bouncing right into her wheelhouse, the South Kingstown freshman tried to hit a tennis ball harder than she ever had before.
Then it was time to celebrate.
Clark and senior Tessa O’Sullivan didn’t plan on being state champions when they started their partnership this spring and weren’t even thinking about a title when the RIIL Girls Doubles Tournament began Friday. After two days of near-perfect tennis, Clark and O’Sullivan rolled into Sunday’s final confident up against La Salle’s Ella Kozlik and Arianna Roye and played that way, pulling off the 6-3, 6-1 win to become the first Rebel duo to win the state doubles crown.
