OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) - Don’t fall for scam callers posing as law enforcement. We’ve heard the warnings before, but now we have a real example to share.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office wants you to hear a recorded call between a scammer and someone who exposed their red flags.

In the recording, the scammer is telling the intended victim to stop recording their call and to drive herself to the sheriff’s office.

SCAMMER: “You’re lying to me and to law enforcement, ma’am. Now you’re going to get charged with obstruction. What’s your ETA, ma’am? Now. You’re going to get here now.”

WOMAN: “I’m on my way.”

SCAMMER: “No, you’re not in your motor vehicle.”

The sheriff’s office says there were three red flags exposed in this phone call, which lasted about 3 minutes.
