Outbound express lanes on the Dan Ryan (I-90/94) expressway were closed early Monday morning and a driver was killed after a "large object" went through a vehicle's windshield.

About 5:10 a.m., Illinois State Police responded to a vehicle crash on I-94 southbound at 29th Street. According to ISP, a "large object went through the windshield and struck the driver," and the driver was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.

The driver was later pronounced dead, ISP said.

Traffic Net reported the outbound express lanes between the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) and 31st Street were closed as part of the investigation, with traffic and delays expected.
