A homicide investigation is underway in Southfield after a woman was found dead late Sunday night.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m., police and a crew from Southfield Fire and Rescue responded to the 18000 block of Bainbridge Drive on a report of a person shot and found the woman with an apparent gunshot wound, officials said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Southfield Police Department, a preliminary investigation indicates the woman and suspect knew each other.
