Sikkim’s 14-year-old, Abhista Basnett from Pakyong, has made it to the 23-member Indian squad for the upcoming AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup China 2026 Qualifiers. The talented midfielder impressed during the SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship in Bhutan this August, playing a key role in India’s title-winning campaign.
Head coach Joakim Alexandersson announced the squad ahead of the qualifiers, which will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from October 13 to 17. India is placed in Group G alongside hosts Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan. The young Indian team will play Kyrgyzstan on October 13 and Uzbekistan on October 17, with both matches scheduled at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium, kicking off at 18:30 IST.
