A 5-year-old child was seriously injured after being hit by an off-duty state trooper in Rhode Island on Oct. 2

The driver was unaware he had struck the child, and is not facing any charges

The off-duty trooper showed “no indication" that he "knew he struck a child or that he knowingly left the scene," authorities said

A 5-year-old child was seriously injured after being struck by an off-duty Rhode Island State Police trooper.

The driver later returned and is not being charged following what authorities described as an “unfortunate accident.”

On Thursday, Oct. 2, around 3 p.m. local time, officials responded to the accident on Boylston Street in Warwick, Patch , CBS affiliate WPRI and NBC affiliate WBTS reported.
