Fifth Third Bank opens first Alabama branch in Huntsville’s MidCity

A banking company with Ohio roots has opened its first branch in Alabama.

Fifth Third Bank—fastest-growing—has opened its first branch at 5901-B University Drive in MidCity in Huntsville. It is the first of 10 branches the bank plans to open in the Huntsville area over the next 18 months.

“It really fits into the overall strategy of Fifth Third’s Southeast expansion,” said Randy Koporc, Fifth Third president for Georgia and Alabama. “Over the last number of years, where a lot of banks are retreating and maybe sizing down in markets, we’ve actually been accelerating growth in the Southeast.”

Koporc called Huntsville one of the fastest-growing markets in the Southeast.

“It was a great fit for us to launch in Huntsville, no pun intended,” Koporc said.
