PROVIDENCE, R.I. —

A Massachusetts motorcyclist died Sunday after a crash on Route 6 in Providence, Rhode Island State Police said.

The single-vehicle crash happened at 5:36 p.m. on Route 6 West near the Route 10 South interchange. Responding troopers found a black Kawasaki motorcycle on its side in the first lane of travel.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle struck the high-speed barrier while attempting to negotiate a turn. The impact caused the rider to be thrown from the motorcycle, coming to rest on a nearby dirt embankment.

The rider was identified as Cedrix Teixeira, 26, of Bridgewater. Teixeira was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
