(WSPA) - The South Carolina Department of Public Health confirmed three pets in the Upstate were exposed to rabies in two separate incidents.
In Laurens County, the DPH said one cat was exposed to a rabid racoon and will be quarantined as required by the SC Rabies Control Act. The racoon that tested positive was found near Simpson Creek and Neely Ferry roads in Laurens, according to the DPH.
According to the DPH, a bat tested positive for rabies near Lakeshore Drive and Rodgers Street in Gaffney, where two dogs were exposed and will also be quarantined.
The DHP said the racoon in Laurens County and the bat in Gaffney were submitted for tested and confirmed to have rabies on October 3.
