SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Lithium-ion batteries have been a hot topic throughout the Bay State with the devices being cited as the cause of many dangerous fires and, on Monday, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey announced that the focus of this year’s Fire Prevention Week is lithium-ion battery safety in your home.
The goal is to educate residents on ways to safely buy, charge, store, and recycle the batteries to keep you and your family safe.
The Massachusetts Department of Fire Safety suggested you choose products that have been tested by a independent testing laboratory to ensure the product meets safety standards, only charge the devices with manufacturer approved cables, and recycle batteries at a safe battery recycling facility.
