CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - State officials are emphasizing lithium-ion battery safety during this year's Fire Prevention Week, highlighting the potential fire risks associated with improper charging practices.

Lithium-ion batteries are prevalent in many household electronics, including laptops, cordless vacuum cleaners, smartwatches, and power tools. Fire officials are urging the public to be cautious when charging these devices, as improper handling can lead to overheating and fires.

"One of the problems we're having is when these batteries start to deteriorate or folks use the wrong chargers, they can overheat and start fires," said State Fire Marshal Jon Davine.
