(WTAJ) -- Despite massive appeal across the country, Starbucks will be closing six stores in Pennsylvania by the end of the year.

Starbucks, based in Seattle, Washington, has seen tremendous growth over the past 20 years. However, that growth appears to be stalled in the current climate of the economy and stores are being closed.

According to Pennsylvania's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) website, Starbucks has filed to close six shops in the commonwealth by the start of December.

The closures follow recent trends of businesses assessing their bottom line and cutting stores that may not be as profitable as they want. Several retailers have closed altogether, including Big Lots and Rite Aid.
