MERKEL, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - The Merkel Independent School District is hoping to add a new middle school to the district with a $20 million bond on the November 2025 ballot.
The bond is a second attempt at improving the district after a bond failed in 2024. If passed, the bond will fund a new middle school campus. Interim superintendent Kelly West said the improvement is much needed, since the current building is more than 40 years old.
"The space that we're currently using is a really old structure that needs a lot of improvement, and some of those improvements can be quite expensive," West said.
The school would be built alongside the high school campus, allowing for a cheaper project cost due to the placement.
