WAUNAKEE, Wis (WKOW) -- The Village of Waunakee is taking public comment Monday on a permit for a proposed solar project.
The proposed Six Mile Solar Project is a 6-megawatt project spanning 30 acres of land behind the Savannah Village neighborhood on Waunakee's southeast side near Kennedy Road.
The company behind the proposal, OneEnergy Renewables, says it hopes the project increases renewable energy for the environment. It will collaborate with Madison Gas and Electric for the project.
Nolan Stumpf from OneEnergy Renewables says there are several upsides to the project.
"There are lots of benefits to our vegetation management approach to solar projects," Stumpf said. "We are planning for this project, either plans a native pollinator, prairie seed mix, or a pasture seed mix for sheep
