Israel’s Ambassador to Australia has declared the Israeli people “are not war-lovers” as he pushed back against critics of the Netanyahu government's military campaign in Gaza two years on from the October 7 attacks.

In an exclusive interview with Sky News marking two years since Hamas’ attacks on October 7, 2023, Amir Maimon said his country is still in a state of “national grief and trauma” from the largest loss of Jewish life since the Holocaust.

The attack on Israel killed about 1,200 people and Hamas took more than 250 hostages.

It triggered a military campaign that has led to the death of tens of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza.
