ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) -- Atlantic Beach interim police chief Carlos Castillo has been suspended for the second time since mid-August amid a larger effort by town manager Adrian Jones to bring stronger accountability into the community.

Jones told News13 on Monday that Castillo has been temporarily relieved of his duties, which Castillo confirmed. Neither would comment further.

Castillo was handed a 30-day suspension without pay in mid-August after failing to meet job performance standards, according to documents News13 obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request.

Jones said in an Aug. 18 memorandum to Castillo following a performance review that “it has been observed that your performance has not met the standards expected for your position.”
