HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- A non-profit helping victims and survivors of domestic violence is making headway a year since breaking ground on its new shelter in Conway.

The Family Justice Center of Horry and Georgetown counties says it's the first shelter in Horry County since 2012.

The center's Georgetown location serves up to nine people but soon their new Conway shelter will serve up to triple that number.

"Horry County is one of the top four largest counties in our state and to not have a shelter to help victims of domestic violence just seems unfathomable sometimes that, wow, I can't even believe there isn't a shelter here," Kim Parsons, the center's interim executive director said.
