Syracuse, N.Y. — One person was taken to a hospital Monday night after a house fire on Syracuse’s North Side.

Around 7:39 p.m., firefighters were called to 608 Highland St. for a basement fire with heavy flames and smoke, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches.

After arriving in the area, firefighters found a person with smoke inhalation on Graves Street and called for an ambulance, dispatches said.

The person was taken to Upstate University Hospital, according to dispatches. No other injuries were reported.

More than five fire trucks were at the scene in addition to an AMR ambulance and National Grid. The fire was put out quickly but fire investigators remained at the scene past 8:45 p.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
