FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WILX) - The Kirk Gibson Foundation held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday to officially open the Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson’s Wellness , a first-of-its-kind facility in Michigan where those impacted by Parkinson’s can access a wide range of activity-based and educational programs, all completely free of charge.

Gibson played baseball and football at Michigan State before a 17-year MLB career, most notably playing for the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers, winning a World Series with each and the 1988 NL MVP Award with the Dodgers. In his post-playing career, Gibson managed the Arizona Diamondbacks for five seasons, winning NL Manager of the Year in 2011.
