SUFFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- George Legere, who was arrested and charged in connection to the 53-year-old cold case murder of Janet Couture of East Hartford in September, is dead after being found unresponsive in his cell on Friday evening.
According to the Connecticut Department of Correction, correctional staff members at MacDougall-Walker Correctional in Suffield responded to 77-year-old Legere's cell at around 11 p.m. on Friday and found him unresponsive.
Facility staff immediately began life-saving measures and he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:12 a.m. on Saturday.
Legere's death is being investigated by the Connecticut Department of Correction and Connecticut State Police, the cause of his death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical
