HART — Entering its homecoming week riding a three-game losing streak, the Hart varsity football team was looking to turn things around as the community gathered on Friday.

However, the Spartans of Mason County Central weren’t going to make it easy for the Pirates.

MCC rallied with a 40-yard fumble return for a TD in the fourth, but Hart was too much as it picked up a 30-27 West Michigan Conference-Rivers win.

The Spartans are now 1-2 in WMC play and 2-4 on the year while the Pirates improve to 2-2 in conference games and 3-3 overall.

Mason County Central opened the scoring midway through the first quarter as senior running back Kaden Ruiz punched in a two yard rushing TD. Ryder Nicewander made the extra-point attempt and it held a 7-0 advantage.
