SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- If U.S. military ships and jets are not part of Fleet Week, the big concern is that fewer Bay Area residents and tourists will come to San Francisco to enjoy the festivities that are still happening. The liberty ship Jeremiah O'Brien, which makes its home at Pier 35, is already seeing slower sales for its Fleet Week cruises.

Nestled alongside San Francisco’s Pier 35 is the SS Jeremiah O’Brien. Staffed by merchant marines during World War II, this liberty ship carried troops and cargo from the U.S. to the U.K. and Europe.

This ship typically would be carrying up to 440 Sherman tanks. Could carry 2,000 jeeps or almost a million and a half rounds of ammunition," said Jeremiah O’Brien Executive Director Ken Wright.
