In a moment of silence held Saturday evening at the Asian Market Festival, many in the community learned of the death of Mr. Lich Vu.
Vu died Friday night, nearly a year after he was thrown to the ground by former Oklahoma City police officer Joseph Gibson.

“It definitely is a big blow to the community,” said Asian District Cultural Association Executive Director Steve Le.

On October 27, 2024, Vu was confronted in a traffic stop by then officer Gibson. Body camera footage showed Vu tapping the officer with his hand and telling him to shut up.
