MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The federal surge against crime is producing arrests, but the district attorney said he wants to nip a potential problem in the bud. Steve Mulroy said creating a night court is the best way to deal with rising arrest numbers in Memphis.

Mulroy said the price tag could be very low if the task force is not in town longer than 60 days, but with some cooperation from the sheriff’s and public defender’s offices, some schedule changes could get night court off the drawing board and into reality here. “We in the DA's Office are proposing to do this without really asking for a lot of extra resources ourselves. It would just be a question of moving around the current staff,“ Mulroy said.
