Thousands of residents in Central Queensland have been warned to prepare to evacuate as violent blazes continue to burn through large sections of the state.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Queensland Fire Department issued watch-and-act warnings for those residing in Nearum, Horsecamp, Doughboy, and Takilberan as fires edged closer to properties.
Authorities said that a growing number of homes in the listed towns were in the firing line, with the warning stating that residents should “prepare now so (they) can leave quickly if the bushfires get close.”
“Conditions could get worse quickly,” the warning read.
The QFD said that firefighters were “working to contain the fire” yet reiterated people “should not expect a firefighter at your door.”
