A man has been arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at a synagogue in Sydney’s north, prompting a heavy police response on Tuesday morning.

The incident unfolded about 9.55am on Yeo Street when witnesses reported a man in a truck pointing what appeared to be a firearm towards a place of worship.

Officers from North Shore Police Area Command were called to the scene as specialist units, including Raptor Squad, the Dog Unit, and Traffic and Highway Patrol, joined the search for the vehicle.

The truck was later tracked down in nearby Mosman, where police intercepted it about 11.30am on Raglan Street.

Two men were detained.

The passenger, a 23-year-old man, was taken to Chatswood Police Station, where he is assisting detectives with inquiries.
