LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — Parents have gathered at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed a 12-year-old boy on Friday, calling on city and school district officials to take action after the tragic crash.

In a Monday release, the group called the crash “part of a pattern of dangerous traffic incidents in the area surrounding J.D. Smith Middle School.” According to the release, parents have reported near-misses, speeding vehicles, and unsafe crossings in recent months.

Suggested actions include installing a traffic light in the area, increasing the presence of crossing guards, improving lighting and signage, and enforcing speed limits during school hours.
