A brazen gang of Edinburgh youths were filmed apparently using a power tool in an attempt to steal a bike in front of shocked locals in broad daylight.

The moment was captured by a customer at a restaurant on St Andrew Square on Monday, with several of the group appearing to be riding the new Voi hire bikes with their faces covered.

The shocking footage posted on YouTube shows a large group, all clad in dark clothing, on the bright pink Voi bikes are part of a scheme recently rolled out to provide a convenient method of travel around the city.

As one individual loops around, another can be seen taking machinery to a bike lock as sparks fly. In the background, witnesses can be heard saying: "What the f***. They're stealing bikes in broad daylight bro."
