A former Central Florida federal correctional officer faces more than 30 years in prison for sex and bribery charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Federal officials charged Cornelius Alexander Thompson, of Ocala, with sexual abuse of a ward in federal custody and one count of receiving a bribe by a public official, according to a Sept. 30 press release.

From January 2020 to August 2023, Thompson was having sex with a federal inmate under his custodial, supervisory and disciplinary authority, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
