An officer with the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office faces multiple charges after she allegedly tried to leave the scene of a drunken crash in her private vehicle during a storm that produced widespread flooding last summer.

Sandy Perez, 45, was arrested after she drove over a median and struck a sign in South Plainfield on July 14, according to court records and body-worn camera video.

Perez was later charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and other traffic offenses.

A Piscataway police officer on a meal break at a Taco Bell drive-thru pulled Perez over in a shopping center in the 7000 block of Hadley Road in South Plainfield and then notified South Plainfield police.
