SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - Two more measles cases have been identified in connection to an ongoing measles outbreak Spartanburg County, according to state officials.

According to the South Carolina Department of Public Health, as of Tuesday a total of seven measles cases have been reported in Spartanburg County since September 25. An outbreak is defined as three or more cases of an infection disease that are linked to a common exposure.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection which causes a rash, often first on the face and behind the ears and spreading to the rest of the body.

The virus is highly contagious. A person is able to spread Measles four days before the rash appears, and the virus can linger in the air or on surfaces for hours.
