ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — A teacher's assistant in Edgecombe County is accused of strangling a student with a disability earlier this month, the sheriff’s office said on Tuesday.

According to the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call from school leaders to report an assault on a student by a teaching assistant on Oct. 1. Deputies said the incident occurred at G. W. Bulluck Elementary School in Rocky Mount.

Warrants show that 47-year-old Regina Gray of Conetoe assaulted the male juvenile by “grabbing him by the neck.”

The victim is diagnosed with autism and is described as nonverbal, a spokesperson with the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office told CBS 17 on Tuesday.
