HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) - The bell in the old Vanderburgh County courthouse will ring once again.
At the County Commissioners meeting, commissioners approved a special purchase request for a replacement bell striker and base. The cost was projected to be around $1,500.
Commissioners said earlier in the year, a drop hammer had snapped in two pieces and broke off its base after roughly 7 million strikes.
This reportedly happened back in May. To fix it, a contractor with the University of Southern Indiana will help with the installation of the new striker. To install the new striker, a new base would be fabricated due to the new hammer being shorter than the old one.
No timetable was given to when the project will be completed.
