SAUGUS, Mass. —

Nearly five years after the owners of the Kowloon Restaurant announced their intention to tear down the North Shore landmark's stylized building, architects recently presented plans for the property to the Saugus Planning Board.

Madeline Wong and her late husband, William, built the restaurant back in 1959. William Wong died in August 2011 at the age of 88, and Madeline Wong died in 2022 at the age of 95.

The Wong family revealed in 2021 that they were looking at dividing the property into two lots on which two mixed-use buildings would be constructed. They pledged at that time to include a new Kowloon restaurant in the project.
