WASHINGTON (WCAX) - The U.S. Supreme Court appears to be leaning towards a Christian counselor challenging bans on LGBTQ+ “conversion therapy” for minors.

Justices on Tuesday heard arguments from Kaley Chiles, who says Colorado’s law -- and about half of U.S. states, including Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire -- violates her First Amendment rights by barring voluntary, faith-based therapy.

Colorado argues the law simply regulates licensed therapists, banning a scientifically discredited and harmful practice.

The court’s conservative majority seemed to agree with Chiles, with Justice Samuel Alito calling the law “blatant viewpoint discrimination.”
