Residents have spoken of their frustration after a beleaguered block of flats in Middleton caught fire this morning (October 7).

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were scrambled at 9.45am as flames billowed from a top floor window of the building on Baguley Crescent.

Smoke could be seen from the M60 as it billowed from several corners of the property.

Photos shared with the Manchester Evening News show ceiling-height flames leaping from a window alongside thick grey clouds.

The fire service sent four engines to the scene to tackle the blaze, which was extinguished by around 10.30am. Greater Manchester Police also attended the scene to shut the road.
