SIKESTON, Mo. – The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is mourning the death of one of its officers who was killed in the line of duty.
Officer Henry Franklin was shot and killed on Monday, Oct. 6, while attempting to serve a warrant at a residence in neighboring Mississippi County.
Franklin, who was a member of the Sikeston DPS Tactical Team, had responded to a mutual aid call.
Police said Franklin was killed by a person hiding inside the home where the warrant was being served. It’s unclear if the suspected shooter was the individual being served.

Franklin had worked in the Sikeston Department of Public Safety since June 2013 and had previously served in the Army National Guard. He also was the handler for K9 Odin.
