The Redlands Footlighters Theatre will present “These Shining Lives,” a drama by Melanie Marnich, opening 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, and running weekends through Oct. 26.
The play, inspired by real events, tells the story of women who worked at the Radium Dial Company in the 1920s and 1930s. They painted watch dials with luminous paint, unaware that their work was slowly poisoning them.
At the heart of the play is Catherine Donohue who, along with her friends and co-workers, finds herself caught between the promise of independence and the peril of corporate negligence.
“The play taps into my interest in the human interest story — character driven,” Jeff Richards, who directs the Redlands Footlighters’ production, said in a news release.
