COLCHESTER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Nobody is reported injured after a helicopter with apparent engine problems landed on a popular bike path across Lake Champlain.
According to the pilot, he was flying from Plattsburgh to Burlington when his plane's display warned him of a mechanical problem.
The pilot, who works for South Burlington-based aircraft manufacturer Beta Technologies, told ABC22/FOX44 that he followed standard protocol in landing as soon as he practically could. He said that helicopter pilots between Plattsburgh and Burlington follow a route near the causeway specifically so that they have the option of an emergency landing.
He was able to land safely about a mile from the mainland, where the Causeway passes near Sunset and Law Islands.
