LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday signed the new state budget into effect without any vetoes.

The $81 billion budget was passed by the Michigan Legislature early Friday morning after months of negotiations and a narrowly-avoided state government shutdown.

“This balanced budget delivers on the kitchen table issues that make a real difference in people's lives,” Whitmer said in a statement. The signing event was not open to the press, and Whitmer did not take questions afterward.
