MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- As the Memphis Safe Task Force has now been established in the city, there's another issue at hand: the Memphis Police Department says it's down nearly 600 officers from where it would like to be.
Tuesday, the police chief talked about the numbers at a city council committee meeting, and the push to get more boots on the ground in the bluff city.
In the last seven days, the city of Memphis has been swarmed with additional law enforcement officers.
The police chief said the Memphis Safe Task Force consists of around 700 additional federal and state resources.
A big part of that includes additional Tennessee State Troopers out on the roads, MPD says officers are feeling.
"It frees officers up so they can have more interactions with citizens number one because they're n
