LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Two Bullitt County Sheriff’s deputies were recognized for their heroic efforts to save the life of an inmate.

The incident happened back in August. An inmate being held in Bullitt County went into cardiac arrest.

Two deputies jumped into action, calling 911 and giving the inmate CPR. Because of this, the inmate was able to recover in the hospital.

Local officials took time Tuesday to recognize the deputies’ heroic efforts.

“I always feel like first responders can be the unsung heroes, whether it be corrections officers, EMTs, or even the police. What I want to do is make sure everybody was recognized and appreciated for things that they do on a regular basis,” Bullitt County Jailer Bryan Whittaker said.

The inmate they saved spent several weeks in the hospital
