A Penhold man is facing charges after Red Deer RCMP seized more than half a kilogram of methamphetamine during a traffic stop last week.
Around 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, an RCMP officer on patrol near Gaetz Avenue and 28 Street noticed a suspicious vehicle parked diagonally across several spots in a lot.
Police say the driver appeared to be slumped over in the seat. When the officer approached, the vehicle drove off but was quickly stopped a short distance away.
RCMP identified the 43-year-old male driver as Derrick Smith, who was wanted on outstanding warrants. Officers say they spotted an open bag in the vehicle containing what appeared to be illicit drugs.
A search of the vehicle turned up 555 grams of methamphetamine, along with a weigh scale, plastic baggies and other drug pa
