PORTLAND, Ore. – Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is set to visit an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland amid legal battles over President Trump’s efforts to deploy the National Guard from various states into the city.
The City of Portland said they were notified of Noem’s visit but had not yet gotten a detailed agenda.
A federal judge in Portland, appointed during by Trump during his first term, issued a temporary restraining order barring the president from deploying the Oregon National Guard into the city, saying the action was unconstitutional.
After the block was issued, the city became aware that Trump had directed troops from California and Texas to deploy to Oregon. The same judge issued another restraining order.
