MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman died after she was hit by a vehicle while riding a motorized wheelchair in Muskegon Heights, police say. The driver of the vehicle was arrested.

It happened around 7:40 p.m. Monday on Hackley Avenue near Reynolds Street, according to the Muskegon Heights Police Department. Arriving officers found a 48-year-old woman who had been hit by a vehicle while she was riding in a motorized wheelchair. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigating officers got a description of the vehicle, which fled the scene, and officers followed a fluid trail for a “significant distance” before losing it.
