SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Do you know how to safely exit your home if there was a fire? A group of Sioux City elementary kids got some hands-on learning Tuesday morning for Fire Prevention Week.

Third graders at Bryant Elementary went through the “smoke house” on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The trailer is set up as a small home that is filled with fire dangers that the kids walk through and look for, things like a broken smoke alarm or an item left on the stove.

The kids then get to go through the house again after it is filled with theatrical smoke to practice exiting a home in a fire safely.

“This gives them an opportunity to practice staying low and practice going out another way,” said Sioux City Fire Rescue Lt. John Nelsen. “So we always want to practice two ways out. They get that opportunity here
