STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- The Stafford County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) said one man took himself from a house party, into the woods and then to jail on Saturday.

On Oct. 4 at around 4:30 a.m., officers responded to Forest Lane Road for a single-vehicle accident. There, a Ford driver had driven into the forest and was about 40 yards from the roadway.

Deputies found the driver, identified as 32-year-old Mathew Trego, who said he accidentally drove off the road, and instead of braking, he accelerated. • (Stafford County Sheriff's Office) • (Stafford County Sheriff's Office) • (Stafford County Sheriff's Office)

SCSO said deputies noticed "strong signs of intoxication including slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage," coming from Trego.
