LEWISTON, Maine — Firefighters and police responded Tuesday afternoon to a building fire in Lewiston, where one woman was injured, authorities said.
Police said the fire broke out at Kaydenz Kitchen, a local nonprofit that provides free food, clothing, and other support for unhoused residents.
The nonprofit's community hub operates out of 551 Lincoln St., which is the site of the former Schemengees Bar and Grille—one of the sites of the 2023 Lewiston mass shooting.
Fires responders said they found heavy fire outside the main building that was quickly spreading to the interior, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading further into the building.
